"It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education. "

—Albert Einstein

Science. . .
...is all around us, and kids are natural empiricists.

Experiments

  • Volcano—vinegar and baking soda
  • Hydrophobic/hydrophyllic—oil and water, lotus pads in our pond
  • Cabbage Indicator—red cabbage solution to tell acids and bases
  • Refraction—light and prism
  • Magnetism—polarity, magnetic metal, different shapes, sizes and strengths, Geomags and a little imagination go a long way.
  • Weights and Measures—kids love making measurements and comparing all sorts of things. Scales, balances, tape measures, rulers, protractors, stop watch, sun dial, even body parts make for loads of fun!
  • States of Matter—solid, liquid, gas, sublimation; helium, oxygen, carbon dioxide
  • Static Electricity—grab a vellux blanket and have some fun, especially at night!
  • Temperature tracking throughout the year.
  • Rain gauge to measure rainfall.
  • Microscopy—check out our digiscope.
  • Density and Bouancy—hard boiled egg in water plus salt.
  • Vacuums—play with vacuums, suction cups, create a vacuum in a bottle.
  • Life Cycles—chickens, butterflies and frogs.
  • Anatomy—dissecting and examining fish, frogs and insects found dead.
  • Astronomy—lunar eclipse, Mars Rover, Venus eclipse, planetarium, NASA.
  • Circuits and Robotics.
  • Kitchen chemistry.
  • Physics of pulleys.
